A drive for new children’s books and pajamas led by the 68th Precinct Community Council and the Bay Ridge Community Council is taking donations until April 1 for six different local organizations which help people in need.
Organized by BRCC Vice President Ilene Sacco and precinct council Vice President Kate Cucco, the drive succeeded in raising $700 dollars before its official start on March 6. Sacco said a portion of this money will be used along with future monetary donations to “buy cotton pajamas for PJ’s for Patients,” one program benefiting from the drive.
The other organizations that will benefit are Grandma’s Love, the Healing Center, Frankie’s Mission, the Neighborhood Improvement Association (NIA) and the Olivia Boccuzzi Foundation.
The focus on children was inspired by last year’s drive for victims of domestic abuse, when Sacco said, “We got a lot of children’s stuff.”
That first drive, Sacco added, “Made me realize some of the things we take for granted.”
Until March 31, the exclusively new pajamas and reading books can also be dropped off at Harbour Abstract (7617 Third Avenue), the Bay Ridge Jewish Center (405 81st Street), Dorsa Realty (9012 Third Avenue), Capital One Bank (7110 Fifth Avenue) and Community Board 10 (8119 Fifth Avenue), as well as at the offices of State Senator Marty Golden and Assemblymember Nicole Malliotakis (7408 Fifth Avenue), Assemblymember Pam Harris (8525 Third Avenue) and Councilmember Vincent Gentile (8018 Fifth Avenue).
Participants will also have the chance to stop by the 68th Precinct on April 1 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to drop off donations. Those interested in contributing can also mail a check to the Bay Ridge Community Council (BRCC), P.O. Box 090001, Fort Hamilton Station, Brooklyn, NY 11209.
