For the 13th time since 2004, the Bay Ridge Community Council (BRCC) has honored local activists as its “Hidden Treasures of the Community.”
The seven members of the class of 2017 — the Narrows Botanical Gardens’ Linda Dahl and Henrietta De Ryck; Mary Forestiere of the Bay Ridge Mental Health Council (whose award was picked up at the event by Beverly Peare); Theresa Monforte-Caraballo, founder of Grandma’s Love; Eileen Oldcroft of BRAVO; Mary Bocchino of the Archbishop John Hughes Columbiettes; and Dr. Ahmad Jaber, president of the Arab American Association of New York — were introduced at BRCC’s February 28 meeting, held in the community room at Shore Hill, 9000 Shore Road.
The awards, according to BRCC were “created to recognize and thank the people in the community who have given of their time, talent and treasures over the years.”
The annual occasion recognizing the “unsung heroes” of Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Fort Hamilton, is “one of our most rewarding events,” noted Ralph Succar, BRCC’s president.
