Fontbonne nails down first on Senior Night

After a convincing 72-42 win over Cristo Rey, the 10-0 Varsity Bonnies honored their eight outgoing seniors along with four members of the evening’s competition on Fontbonne’s traditional Senior Night.

Following the Cristo Rey game, the Bonnies then went on to beat St. Johns Prep (49-15) and St. Edmunds Prep (78-53) to finish with an undefeated 12-0 regular season record to earn Fontbonne a first place bye for the upcoming 2017 March playoffs.

Concluding the season over the weekend, the Bonnies earned a 60-46 win over St. Joseph Hill in Staten Island in a final non-league game for an overall season record of 18-4.

After the Cristo Rey game, eight members of the Varsity team were honored individually with farewell speech by one of their teammates, and were presented with a floral bouquet and a hand-painted portrait of their uniform by Fontbonne alumna mom Chris Kennedy.

However, a recent Fontbonne alumna who is still involved with basketball gave the evening’s most touching farewell. Assistant Coach Kate Oliver honored her former teammate Meghan Glynn, recalling when she first met the newcomer Varsity freshman and took her under her wing on a team of upperclassmen.

“This is one of the best senior teams that I’ve had in my 10 years at Fontbonne,” said Coach Steve Oliver to the assembled teachers, families and friends. “You are an amazing group. You have been good representatives for this team, for your school and for your families.”
