Nine hopefuls to duke it out at 43rd District Council debate

The heat is on.

As primary day swiftly approaches, all nine hopefuls for the 43rd District City Council seat — which represents the neighborhoods of Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst and Bath Beach — will duke it out on Tuesday, August 15 at what is sure to be a fascinating debate.

The forum — hosted by The Home Reporter and Brooklyn Spectator — will be held at Xaverian High School, 7100 Shore Road, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The seat is currently held by Councilmember Vincent Gentile, who has represented the 43rd District for more than 13 years, and who cannot run again come next year’s election due to term limits.

Democrats in the running include former aide to Gentile Justin Brannan, Democratic District Leaders Nancy Tong and Kevin Peter CarrollReverend Khader El-Yateem and attorney Vincent Chirico. Republican hopefuls include Deputy Chief of Staff to State Senator Marty Golden John Quaglione, former aide to Congressmember Dan Donovan Liam McCabe, longtime political aide Bob Capano, most recently a manager at a Manhattan supermarket, and Republican District Leader Lucretia Regina-Potter.
