Woman jumps to death from Bay Ridge building down the block from annual parade

A Bay Ridge woman jumped to her death on Monday, May 28, less than half a block away from the avenue on which the 151st annual Kings County Memorial Day Parade was making its way up to Cannonball Park.

According to police, the unidentified woman leapt from the rear window of her home off Third Avenue on 82nd Street at around 11:30 a.m.

She was pronounced dead 10 minutes later.

The parade – which routinely makes its way up Third Avenue from 78th Street to Marine Avenue, where it turns up to Fourth and proceeds towards John Paul Jones “Cannonball” Park – had stepped off just 30 minutes prior.

Family members told a photographer on the scene that the woman was “depressed.”
