$12 Million in Council Funding Slated for Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst

The City Council’s 2019 Fiscal Year budget is looking like a good one for southern Brooklyn, with $12 million alone slated for Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Bensonhurst.

The total includes funding for local public schools, parks and non-profits (including local theater groups, little leagues, senior centers and bigger groups like the Arab American Association of New York), Councilmember Justin Brannan told this paper.

Non-profits and schools will each see $2 million in Council funding, Brannan said, with schools in his district set to see a few new auditoriums, a bevy of technological upgrades, laptops and more.

Parks in the area will be getting an estimated $6 million, which, Brannan stressed, will also include money to repave the bike path from the 69th Street Pier to Ceasar’s Bay.

The new budget will also include $1 million towards capital financing for in-district affordable senior housing – something Brannan and other advocates have long fought for – as well as $400,000 towards additional sanitation services such as higher volume daily basket pickup.

“I may be a vegetarian but I was still able to bring back a significant amount of bacon for the hardworking people of Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Bath Beach and Bensonhurst,” Brannan told this paper. “From day one, my goal has been to make life just a little bit easier for everyone that calls the 43rd District home and I think this budget helps get us there. There are extra funds to strengthen our public schools, make our streets and parks cleaner, and to keep our many important local non-profit organizations buzzing.”
