Bay Ridge Catholic Academy hosts Veterans Day assembly

A special guest from the U.S. Army National Guard visited Bay Ridge Catholic Academy on Thursday, Nov. 7 for the school’s Veterans Day tribute, ahead of the national holiday on Monday, Nov. 11. The academy invited Major Anthony Perlongo, a Military Intelligence Officer with the Army National Guard, to speak at an assembly of students in Grades 5 through 8. Maj. Perlongo discussed his career choice and training to the attentive audience.

He also explained the distinction between Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

“Maj. Perlongo explained the importance of the United States Armed Forces and how they protect our country. Bay Ridge Catholic Academy thanks all of those who serve and have served,” Principal Paul Morisi said.

Following his presentation, Maj. Perlongo invited students to take part in a push-up challenge, and a couple of students even had the chance to try on his tactical bulletproof vest.

Prior to the Veterans Day presentation, students were inducted into the Bay Ridge Catholic Academy Leadership Institute, and student of the month awards were presented.

Flanking the student Leadership Institute’s newly inducted students are Bay Ridge Catholic Academy Principal Paul Morisi, and Dr. Paula McKeown, faculty advisor to the Leadership Institute.
