MCU scores with John Franco

It’s a home run.

Municipal Credit Union (MCU) has chosen baseball great John Franco,the left-handed pitcher, as its first spokesperson in 96years.

He truly embodies what it means to be a New Yorker and an MCUmember, said MCU President and CEO Kam Wong. First, John ismember of the extended MCU family. His father was a city employeeand MCU member, so he and his family have a direct connection toMCU. In addition, John’s tremendous passion, dedication, and hardwork ethic, which led to his great success in professionalbaseball, are values we know our members respect. These combinedmake John the perfect person to represent MCU.

The Bensonhurst native spent 22 seasons in major league baseball,playing for the Cincinnati Reds, New York Mets and Houston Astros.Franco attended and graduated from Lafayette High School and wasdrafted from St. John’s University on the fifth round of the 1981amateur draft.

When I first heard that MCU was interested in having me as itsspokesperson, I couldn’t have been more excited, said Franco.Like me, MCU is all about reliability and being there when itmatters most. MCU was there for my dad to help him reach hisfinancial goals, which in turn, helped me achieve my dream ofplaying professional baseball. I am honored MCU has chosen me torepresent them and the great work they do in the New Yorkcommunity.

MCU was established in 1916 by John Purroy Mitchel as analternative way to save money and now have branches in New YorkCity, Long Island and Westchester.

As a spokesperson for MCU, Franco will be featured in theiradvertising campaigns in television and other media. He will alsomake public appearances representing the credit union.
