Thanks to a local veterans group, the Stars and Stripes nowadorn the sidewalk in front of the Home Reporter’s Bay Ridgeoffice.
Members of the American Legion Amity Post 791 installed the flag infront of 8723 Third Avenue last Thursday.For the veterans, it was a labor of love. We’ve been doing thisfor 18 years, said Howard Dunn, one of those who has led thecharge to adorn neighborhood streets with American flags.Dunn estimated that, over the years, the group has installed about12,000 flags in Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, Staten Island and MarinePark. We’re proud of the American flag, he added. We want to seeall the businesses and private homes put the flag out.Dunn, a WWII veteran, was one of three veterans from the Amity Postinstalling flags on Third Avenue last week. The others were MichaelMoylan, the post commander, who served in Germany during the Berlincrisis, and Thomas Kane, a Korean War veteran.Leave a Reply
