Police Beat: 72nd and 68th Precincts, Week of June 26 to 29

72 PRECINCT

FATAL SHOOTING

Giovanni Zompoaltecatl, 23, of Ridgewood, Queens, was pronounceddead on the scene after he was fatally shot during a fight in frontof 459 50th Street on Tuesday, July 5, at 12:15 a.m. Police havenot made any arrests in connection with the shooting at thistime.

68 PRECINCT

In the 68 Precinct, which covers the neighborhoods of Bay Ridge,Dyker Heights and Fort Hamilton, two assaults, two burglaries, onegrand larceny and one robbery were reported between June 26 and 29,indicating an increase in assaults, the same number of burglaries,the same number of grand larcenies and a decrease in robberies fromlast week’s reports.

BURGLARIZED APARTMENT

A 37-year-old man told police that he left work at approximately11 a.m. on June 27 and returned to his Eighth Avenue and 67thStreet home to find the front door pushed in. He soon found hisliving room in disarray and his $600 laptop missing from the house.No other tenants were home at the time, there are no securitycameras in the building and there is no buzzer at the front door tothe apartment.

UNLOCKED AWAY

A 31-year-old woman placed her bag in her desk drawer at the BayRidge Job Center, located at 6740 Fourth Avenue, and returned at 2p.m. to find the bag, which contained credit and debit cards, agreen card, a health insurance card and $60 cash, missing from thedrawer. Although the woman locked the drawer, she said that thelock could be opened by moving it.

ROBBED AT KNIFEPOINT

A 22-year-old woman was smoking a cigarette and walking on thenorthwest corner of 80th Street and Ridge Boulevard when a whiteman, about six feet tall and 320 pounds, with black eyes and blackhair, held a black knife against her throat and told her, I’mgoing to slit your [expletive] throat if you call the cops. The manthen stole the woman’s iPhone 4, her debit card and $250 incash.

STOLEN VALUABLES

Someone broke into a 38-year-old man’s home at 74th Street andNinth Avenue at 7 p.m. on June 26 through the back door, stealing$8,000 in cash, various rings worth $20,000, bracelets totaling$10,000, earrings worth $6,000, watches amounting to $4,000 and anHP computer tower worth $1,000.
