POLICE BEAT: 62nd Precinct

62ND PRECINCT

Between Thursday, November 10, and Wednesday, November 16, the62nd Precinct received reports of two robberies, one burglary, onefelony assault, seven grand larcenies and three auto thefts – anincrease in grand larcenies, auto thefts and robberies since lastweek (November 3 to 9). Compared to this time last month (October13 to 19), there were fewer robberies, grand larcenies and autothefts.

AFTER-SCHOOL LESSON

A 14-year-old high schooler was on his way to school near 24thAvenue and Bath Avenue on Thursday, November 10, when a 17-year-oldacquaintance approached and punched him in the left side of thehead, said police.

The suspect then demanded the boy’s cell phone, but he refused.At that point, a teacher saw what was happening and intervened,leading the older boy to flee in an unknown direction.

BANK ROBBERY

Police are searching for a white male in his 40s who allegedlyrobbed the Sovereign Bank on 86th Street and Bay 35th Street onThursday, November 10, shortly after noon, passing a note to ateller and escaping with $1,469 in cash.

The note, which was left with the teller, read in part: I havea gun. No ones, no dye packs. Hurry, don’t make me use it. It wasnot revealed whether the note was typed or handwritten. The suspectwas seen on surveillance tape wearing a blue sweatshirt and a bluebaseball cap.

BEWARE MACHETE

A 17-year-old Hispanic man known on the street as Flaco iswanted for allegedly swinging a machete at a 16-year-oldacquaintance, leaving the victim with a bone deep cut on his leftarm, which the victim had raised to block a blow to his body.

The suspect is described as being around 5’8 and weighingaround 160 pounds. He was last seen fleeing from 68th Street and18th Avenue at around 7:15 p.m. on Monday, November 14.

FRONT DOOR FORCE

A house on Dahill Road near Kings Highway was broken into ataround 8:30 a.m. on Monday, November 14, and nearly $4,000 in cashplus credit cards, electronics and ID cards were stolen from the23-year-old resident, police said. A debit card stolen was usedlater that afternoon at a gas station on 65th Street.

STOLEN CARS

A white Mercedes Benz was stolen from its spot at the corner of85th Street and 21st Avenue at around 10 a.m. on Thursday, November10, police said.

A 2011 BMW 7 Series car was stolen from its parking spot onQuentin Road and West 2nd Street at around 9 p.m. on Friday,November 11, said police. It had $455 in tickets accrued, but hadnot been towed.

The next day, in a separate incident, a pizza delivery carcomplete with pizza sign on the roof was stolen from 81st Streetnear 21st Avenue, said police.

HEADSCARF BLACKMAIL

A 27-year-old woman allegedly attempted to blackmail her26-year-old friend into not reporting that she had stolen $450,jewelry and a camera from her by threatening to post photos onlineof the victim without her headscarf on if she went to the police.Police are investigating.

NO GOOD DEED…

Police arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly stealing $11from a pedestrian who had taken out a wad of cash to give thesuspect a dollar bill for bus fare at 85th Street and 17th Avenueon Saturday, November 12.

TRAIN THEFT

A 28-year-old woman was robbed of her iPhone as she was talkingon it inside the N station at 63rd Street and 20th Avenue at 8:55a.m. on Monday, November 15, said police. The suspect allegedlygrabbed it out of her hands and fled.
