Young artists are showcased at Ridge’s Art Room

Bay Ridge’s budding young artists strutted their stuff at arecent exhibition.

The Secret Box exhibition at The Art Room, located on 8710Third Avenue, opened on Saturday, December 3. All of the works weremade by students of the art school, who created their masterpiecesin the style of Joseph Cornell, a New York-based artist whogathered and assembled objects and displayed them in boxes.

The Art Room was transformed into a gallery space so that thechildren could get a taste of the gallery experience, says LeighHolliday, owner of the school. Holliday stated, It was reallyawesome to see them [the students] respond to their art in thisway.

The children were given materials and asked to bring a box toclass, Holliday explained , and from that point onwards, thecreations sprang from the boys’ and girls’ imaginations.

What is really cool is that kids at any age can be taughtinformation and they will process it in their own unique ways, fromdifferent viewpoints and perspectives, and that is the reallybeautiful thing about it, exclaimed Holliday.

The Art Room holds afterschool and morning classes for children, ages two to 12. The school hosts art themed birthday parties andprivate lessons with Holliday on the weekends. For more informationabout the Art Room, visit www.theartroomnyc.com or contact Hollidayat 347-560-6572.
