Police are still searching for two armed men who allegedlyrobbed a Capital One bank in Bensonhurst at gunpoint and managed toescape on foot despite a massive police search on Thursday evening,December 29, but the FBI is now saying in published reports thatthis may be the work of serial robber Jack Mannino – also known asthe Seven Second Bandit.
The bank, at 7120 New Utrecht Avenue, was targeted by two maskedmen carrying guns shortly before 6 p.m. The first suspect allegedlyentered, wielding the gun and telling everyone to get down. He isdescribed as having worn a dark hoodie with a mask or scarf overhis face, a green jacket and blue jeans. He may be in his 40s,balding, about 5’7 tall and weighing around 220 pounds.
The second suspect, also wearing a scarf or mask over his face,then jumped over the teller counter, opened drawers and filled agold-colored holiday gift bag with $5,458 in cash – plus a $200 dyepack that is intended to explode ink all over the cash and renderthem unusable. This man was wearing a gray hoodie and a blackleather jacket.
The men are said to have then fled southbound on New UtrechtAvenue. A witness saw two men get out of a black Lexus that hadbeen speeding in reverse eastbound up 72nd Street and then run onfoot in different directions. The car was recovered nearby and banksurveillance video recorded the incident.
In a statement to 1010 WINS radio station, FBI spokespersonPeter Donald said that it looks like [Mannino’s] back at it.Mannino, 43, was released from federal prison in July, 2011, afterserving over 10 years for a series of bank robberies in 1999throughout Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island.
