Little Kitchen, big heart

Comfort food that evokes memories of favorite family meals isthe highlight at a local eatery that celebrated its grand openingon February 11.

Corinne Betsch and John Nolan own Little Kitchen, Fifth Avenue’snewest dining spot. Nolan also owns Kelly’s Tavern next door.

While Betsch is a native Ridgeite, Nolan hails from Tipperary,Ireland. He had his eye on the spot for a long time, Betsch, whoalso works at Kelly’s Tavern, explained. I’m American and he isIrish, so we tried to combine the two together.

The menu’s main focus is on comfort foods like fish and chips, hamburgers and shepherd’s pie. We’re unique. All of our stuff isfresh and we make everything from scratch, Betsch said, notingthat they also serve Irish breakfast and a variety of soups.

We have awesome soups – chicken noodle and cream of mushroom, she explained. Then every day he [Nolan] switches it up withsomething else: cream of asparagus, spinach, lentil, and soon.

The space seats 12 at the moment, but will eventually seat 16.It feels like you’re sitting in someone’s dining room, Betschsaid, adding that there are windows all along the front of therestaurant filled with artwork. It looks like a kitchen – homeyand rustic.

Some of Little Kitchen’s best customers are the ironworkers atLocal 40. They come in every day and are wonderful, Betsch said.I am so sad they missed the grand opening since it was over theweekend.
