One word for made in Brooklyn foodstuffs – yum

The diversity of made in Brooklyn foods was on display earlier this month at Brooklyn’s second annual Local Food and Travel Expo, held in the historic lobby of the landmarked Williamsburg Savings Bank building.

The event, put together by EscapeMaker.com, shone a spotlight on agri-tourism within a couple of hours of the borough, as well as on Brooklyn’s own homegrown culinary specialties, from pickles to chocolate to wine and beer.

Attendees had the opportunity to sample Raaka’s virgin chocolate, made in small batches in Clinton Hill, as well as the vintages produced by the Brooklyn Winery in Williamsburg, ales and lagers crafted by the Empire Brewing Company at the Greenpoint Beer Works location, and brownies and cupcakes baked by Robicelli’s in Bay Ridge.

“The food of tomorrow and today is being incubated right here in Brooklyn,” noted Borough President Marty Markowitz. “Brooklyn is known for some of the best restaurants in the city and the country. Besides the traditional ethnic foods, a new wave is happening right here in Brooklyn. For me, it couldn’t get any better.”
