POLICE BEAT: 68th Precinct

68th Precinct

Between Sunday, June 24 and Sunday, July 1, the 68th Precinct received reports of two grand larcenies and three robberies. The 68th Precinct serves Bay Ridge, Fort Hamilton and Dyker Heights.

SINK HOLE

On Thursday, June 29, a large sink hole formed on 92nd Street between Third Avenue and Ridge Boulevard. The hole is about 40 feet in diameter and 60 feet deep. According to a report by the 68th Precinct, no one was injured and no families had to be displaced, although some went without gas service for a few hours. No vehicles were damaged, either.

The Department of Environmental Protection and the Office of Emergency Management were on the scene the same day. A DEP contractor began excavating a trench and installing an emergency sewer in the middle of 92nd Street the morning of July 3, according to State Senator Marty Golden’s office, and the installation will take about a week.

There may be additional street closures and extra traffic, but bus service will not be disrupted. Residents can call Shane Ojar at 718-595-4148 for any additional information.

PHONE PIRATES

On Saturday, June 30 at 12:45 a.m., a 21-year-old male was walking home on 62nd Street near 10th Avenue when he was approached by a 25-year-old white male, 6’2’’ with short brown hair wearing light green shorts and some tattoos, who allegedly displayed a knife and told him to empty his pockets. The perp reportedly took his iPhone 4 and $2 and asked the victim to walk westbound on 62nd Street towards 10th Avenue while he fled in a Nissan, possibly a Sentra with another perp.

A 27-year-old white female was walking along 64th Street near Eighth Avenue on Saturday, June 30 at 2:30 p.m., when two males approached her and allegedly pushed her to the ground and kicked her. One of the perps, a 17-year-old white male, 5’6”, weighing 130 lbs., with brown eyes and black hair and wearing green shorts, was on a bike. He reportedly took the victim’s iPhone 4S worth $800 and attempted to take her purse.

SNEAK ATTACKS

While walking home from the train on Sunday, July 1 at 2:45 a.m. on 78th Street near Fifth Avenue, a 21-year-old white female said a perp came up from behind her, allegedly picked her up and threw her to the floor, causing a laceration to her right elbow, and took her purse containing a wallet, debit card, University of Chicago ID, MetroCard, Lancôme lipstick, keys and $120 before fleeing.

On Wednesday, June 27 at 4 a.m., a 23-year-old white female was walking on Fourth Avenue near 78th Street when a white male, 5’10” with light skin and a gray hoodie, allegedly came up from behind her and grabbed her Coach purse containing $10, a Verizon Android phone, debit cards and a New York State driver’s license, before fleeing northbound on Fourth Avenue.

DRIVE-BY MUGGING

On Wednesday, June 27 at 4:30 a.m., a 23-year-old Hispanic white male and a 23-year-old Hispanic white female were standing on the corner of Fourth Avenue and 99th Street when a black male allegedly pulled up in a black sedan, jumped out of the car and cursed at the woman, while grabbing her purse, containing $100 and a Sephora lipstick worth $80, before fleeing southbound on Fourth Avenue.
