- For $20, come to Galapagos Art Space for “The Waterfront Follies,” a series of unique acts from around the world, including aerialists, classy cabaret, magicians, singing sirens, and more. http://galapagosartspace.com/events
- “Inocente,” a 40-minute short film by Sean Fine and Andrea Nix is being screened tonight at MetroTech Commons. Inocente is a homeless teen in San Diego who is facing the same troubles as an average teen, and then some. Diving deeper, you learn her mom is a single parent, as well as an immigrant and through her hardships turns to art as an expressive outlet. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., live music starts at 8:30, and a Q & A session starts at 10:30 p.m.
- Janka Nabay and the Bubu Gang is at 285 Kent Avenue tonight at 9 p.m.. Ahmed Janka Nabay, a Sierra Leonean native is to thank for single-handedly radicalized bubu, a frantically-paced electronic dance music with ancient, magical origins. Sierra Leoneans thought of bubu music as a relic of the past, but in the mid-90s, Janka revived and modernized it. Janka is also working on a very special project for the Olympic Games, writing and recording a song for the Sierra Leonean team and is debuting it on tour and at this homecoming show!
