Levi Aron pleads guilty

Levi Aron, the suspected killer of eight-year-old Leiby Kletzky pled guilty in Brooklyn Supreme Court on Thursday, August 9.

Assemblymember Dov Hikind, who was asked by Kletzky’s family to appear and speak on their behalf, read a statement from Leiby’s parents, Nachman and Esther Kletzky.

Leiby was lost on his way home on July 12, 2011, when Aron allegedly kidnapped him, brought him to his home and then killed him, after seeing posters around Borough Park asking for the child’s safe return.

“In the years that I’ve had the honor of representing this community, I’ve never been prouder of the people that I represent,” Hikind said. “While what happened to Leiby was certainly the worst tragedy that’s ever happened to us, the unity we saw here—and from people everywhere on behalf of this child—was almost beyond belief. Leiby was everyone’s child; everyone felt this pain and wanted to help. Today, we all remain a little more united.”

Aron is slated to be sentenced on August 29.
