The crowds turned out on Eastern Parkway for the annual West Indian American Day Carnival parade, characterized by gorgeous costumes, lively music and brightly flavored foodstuffs.
It was the 45th anniversary of the landmark event, sponsored by the West Indian American Day Carnival Association (WIADCA), which is held annually on Labor Day after a multi-day lead-up.
Among those in attendance were Governor Andrew Cuomo, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, Public Advocate Bill de Blasio and Senator Chuck Schumer. Crooner Harry Belafonte was grand marshal.
