Squadron’s Burger Beats Lander’s At Greenmarket Cookoff

State Senator Daniel Squadron’s burger won out over Councilmember Brad Lander’s burger at the first Better Burger Cookoff at the Carroll Gardens Greenmarket on September 16. The amateur chefs were helped by teen sous chefs from the School of Collaborative Studies and Teen Battle Chef – their creations then taste-tested by pedestrians.

Squadron crafted a burger out of Hudson Valley duck bacon and Pawlet cheese with his own special “one shot, sure shot sauce,” while Lander whipped up a goat cheese-and-beef burger with apples and a homemade sriracha mayo.

The event used all market produce and was held to highlight the NYC Greenmarket program and the fact that they now accept EBT payments. The Carroll Gardens Greenmarket is at Carroll Park, at Smith and Carroll Streets.
