DEAR JUDE: I have several critical situations that need to be resolved immediately. I can lose my home, my family, my job and my mind.

“It all began in the summer of 2011. Two adorable orange kitties with splashes of black swirls found their way into my backyard. I fell in love, and began feeding them. One day, there were two more delightfully stunning babies. I continued feeding.

“The next thing I recall, there were eight gorgeous orange and black felines running around. I continued to feed. Now, there are 22 creatures living in my yard. Now, their eyes are crusted and infected. They only trust me; I am the constant food caretaker.

“My neighbors have reported me to the Board of Health, and I have received numerous summons. My boss has threatened to fire me — I am always late for work; I do have a cat scent around me. My family and friends no longer talk to me; they think I am insane, plain crazy for doing this to myself; I was never a cat person.

“They leave soap products, colognes and body fresheners on my porch. How insulting is that! The nerve of them, they do not feed or care for any pets, and yet they condemn me for helping hungry cats in my yard. –Overwhelmed Helen, Brooklyn Heights
