Schumer to speak at Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce’s annual meeting

Businesses throughout the borough are preparing for the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce’s annual meeting, slated to take place on October 24 at Steiner Studios.

New President Carlo Scissura said he was “excited” to attend his first meeting as head of the Chamber, as well as host Senator Chuck Schumer as keynote speaker.

“It’s a busy time of year with elections and a lot of economic development happening in the city and state,” Scissura said. “It’s a great opportunity for businesses and Brooklynites to mingle and network.”

There will also be a trade show, with about 50 participating businesses of all varieties, before the meeting. There will also be a small business service center where questions can be answered, from how to get loans to pointers on how enroll employees with health insurance.

“It’s kind of a one-stop-shop for Brooklyn businesses. It brings everything together,” Scissura explained, adding that Borough President Marty Markowitz will also make an appearance.

Scissura will open the meeting with a Brooklyn Quiz. Board members will vote on a new board of directors, including a chairperson, for the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce as well as the Brooklyn Alliance.

“It’s good stuff,” Scissura concluded.

The meeting will take place at Stage 6 at Steiner Studios at the Brooklyn Navy Yard on Wednesday, October 24. The trade show and networking will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. and the speaking program and dinner and cocktails will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Kosher and vegetarian meals are available upon request. Tickets cost $100 for members; $125 for non-members. For more information, call 718-875-1000.
