POLICE BEAT: 68th and 62nd Precinct

68th Precinct

Between Sunday, October 21 and Sunday, October 28 the 68th Precinct received reports of one grand larceny, one burglary and two robberies. The 68th Precinct serves Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Fort Hamilton.

RUNAWAY PURSE

A 50-year-old white female living on Harbor View Terrace put her purse on the trunk of her car and went inside her house for a few minutes on Monday, October 22 at 1:05 p.m. When she came out, the purse was gone and she observed a male running down the block. When she told him to stop, he continued to flee. The $2,500 Chanel purse contained designer eyeglasses and sunglasses, debit, credit and insurance cards, and her driver’s license.

RANSACKING RUFFIAN

On Thursday, October 25 at 8:30 a.m., a 41-year-old female living on Ridge Boulevard near 70th Street left for work. When she got home, she noticed that the front door had the chain latch on. When she entered her apartment, she saw that the air conditioning unit was pushed through a rear window, doors were opened and the rooms were ransacked. Her MacBook Pro, $300 Canon camera and one carat white gold earrings were missing.

When police interviewed neighbors, they said that they saw a 20-year-old black male, 5’8”, knocking on her door while she was at work.

BANK HOLD-UP

Police are searching for two white male perps for allegedly robbing a Fifth Avenue bank on Saturday, October 27 at 2:10 p.m. One suspect wore a plaid shirt and blue jeans and the other wore a gray shirt and blue jeans.

Both perps reportedly entered the bank, near 71st Street, wearing black ski masks. One perp is reported to have jumped on top of a counter, displayed a black gun and said, “Nobody move. This is not a f—- joke. Open the drawers and don’t give me a dye pack or you’re dead.”

He then allegedly went to the teller’s side of the window and removed an unknown amount of cash. The other suspect also had a black gun in his waistband and repeatedly said “Hurry up, don’t move.” Both fled in a silver four door sedan, driven by a third perp. No one was injured.

TOUGH COOKIE

Police are searching for a 5’6” black Hispanic male, with brown eyes and close-cut black hair, wearing a gray jacket, blue jeans and red sneakers, for allegedly attempting to rob a 19-year-old white Hispanic female on Saturday, October 27 at 10 p.m.

The victim was walking to the pier from her boyfriend’s house when the perp ran up behind her on the corner of Shore Road and 68th Street, knocked her down to the ground and said, “I need your phone; I lost my brother two hours ago.” The victim kicked and screamed, scaring the perp away, who fled southbound. The victim was able to hold onto her phone and did not sustain any injuries.

62nd Precinct

Between Thursday, October 18 and Wednesday, October 24, the 62nd Precinct received reports of one robbery, two burglaries, two felony assaults, six identity thefts, two grand larcenies and two auto thefts.

Compared to last week, there were fewer burglaries and robberies. Compared to the same time last month (Wednesday September 19 through Tuesday, September 25) there were more identity thefts.

CASH HUNGRY CADS

A 37-year-old black Hispanic male was talking on the phone and walking on 20th Avenue near 67th Street on Friday, October 19 at 6 p.m. when two white males punched him in the neck, knocking him to the ground, and began kicking him. When the victim got to his feet, the perps forcibly went through his wallet and removed $200 in cash.

CHAIN GANG

Burglars broke the chain on the front gate of a residential constructions site on 72nd Street near 14th Avenue on Friday, October 19 around 6 p.m. They entered an apartment door, by breaking another chain, went into an enclosed room, and took an electric cable box and wire roll.

SNEAKY THIEF

On Thursday, October 18 at 10 a.m., someone entered an apartment on Bath Avenue near 18th Avenue through the door of a storage unit, causing damage, and took a bike and electronics belonging to a 36-year-old white male. There are two cameras in the rear of the building.

JEALOUS JERK

Police arrested a 20-year-old white Hispanic male for allegedly assaulting his 18-year-old white Hispanic girlfriend on Thursday, October 18 at 2 p.m.

The victim was in her boyfriend’s apartment on Bay Parkway near 68th Street. She was on the phone when he started to accuse her of talking to another man. The perp reportedly shoved, choked and punched her in the face, causing redness to the right eye and a bloody lip. The victim said she fears for her life, but refused medical attention. Photos were taken of her injuries.

METAL MANIAC

On Thursday, October 18 at 7:50 p.m., a 39-year-old white male had an argument with an unknown suspect on 70th Street near 20th Avenue. The perp allegedly punched the victim in the head, but was pushed away. Then, the hooligan pulled out a metal pipe and hit the victim in the left leg, causing redness, swelling and pain. He refused medical attention.
