What’s your New Year’s Eve resolution? Anything in mind, yet? Well, you can think about how to become a better you while enjoying the fireworks at Prospect Park—how do you like the idea?
Here are a few options on how to spend the last day of 2012 and welcome a whole new 365-day challenge.
On December 31, head off to Grand Army Plaza for Brooklyn’s biggest party which includes fireworks, entertainment, hot chocolate and more. The celebrations, sponsored by Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, are free and they start at 11 p.m., so bundle up and come prepared for the fun. Best locations for viewing the midnight fireworks include anywhere in Grand Army Plaza, inside the park on the West Drive, and along Prospect Park West between Grand Army Plaza and Ninth Street.
How about welcoming the year running? Prospect Park will feature a night-time race, the only one all year, to welcome the year exercising. Runners, walkers and families with children of all ages are welcome.
Brought to you by Brooklyn Road Runners and Skechers, the race is scheduled to start at 11:15 p.m., just in time to savor a cup of complimentary hot chocolate and/or sparkling cider before the fireworks get underway. Tickets cost $25 through December 23, $30 from December 23 to the 30, and $40 on race day. Gifts from Skechers will be given to the first 100 runners.
Do you feel that you’re destined to exercise? If not in Prospect Park, then spend your New Year’s Eve walking across the Brooklyn Bridge. If you do it early enough, you can head over to Grand Army Plaza (a 10-minute subway ride) for midnight fireworks.
