The Citizens Committee for New York City is launching the “Citizens Committee/TD Bank Environmental Grants” program with a $100,000 grant from TD Bank.
Over a period of two years, Citizens Committee will distribute these funds in the form of micro-grants ($500-$3,000 each) and project planning assistance to New York City’s most deserving environmentally-conscious neighborhood groups, student-based groups, and community gardening groups. The donation will help these volunteer-led, resident-led groups work to “green” neighborhoods in low to moderate-income parts of the city with very little to no green space.
As a direct result of TD Bank’s contribution, environmental projects–such as building tree guards, starting community gardens, launching composting initiatives and installing rainwater harvesting systems–will be implemented and sustained as neighborhood resources for years to come.
In addition to providing financial support, the program will also increase the capacity of volunteer groups to take on environmental projects, as well as their overall ability to affect positive (and green!) changes to their respective neighborhoods.
“This partnership is another great example of TD Bank’s commitment to New York City and the environment,” said Chris Giamo, regional president, Metro New York, for TD Bank. “Supporting the Citizens Committee’s Environmental Grants program continues the bank’s ongoing environmental efforts, such as TD Forests and TD Tree Days, which benefit all New Yorkers.”
According to Citizens Committee’s CEO Peter Kostmayer, “So many New Yorkers are affected by serious environmental issues. This critical partnership will help everyday residents work together create environmental improvements in the areas that need it most.”
