COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: Judge John Ingram has been a member of the Point Breeze Volunteer Fire Department since 1958. He served as volunteer counsel from 1969 to June 2003 and served as Commissioner of the Department until 2004.
In February, 2006, he was appointed to the advisory board of the FDNY Fire Family Transport Foundation Ltd. He is also an honorary battalion chief of the FDNY. He has served as a member of the boards of dozens of organizations including the Cathedral Club of Brooklyn, the Brooklyn Benevolent Society, and the St. Patricks Society of Brooklyn.
He is an honorary usher at St. Patricks Cathedral. He is also a member of many organizations, such as the Naval Reserve Association, the Militia Officers Association, the Marine Society of The City of New York and the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of the City of New York.
PUBLIC SERVICE: Ingram was appointed to the New York State Court of Claims by Governor George Pataki in 2003 and is now sitting as an acting supreme court justice, Kings County, in a trial part. He was also commissioner of the Board of Commissioner of Pilots of the State of New York from 1989 to 1995, and investigated casualties involving state licensed pilots.
He graduated from the State University of New York Maritime College (Fort Schuyler) in 1964 with a Bachelors in Marine Transportation and sailed as Third Mate and Second Mate aboard U.S. flag freighters, containerships and passenger ships. He retired from the Navy Reserve as a line officer captain and holds a third mates license issued by the U.S. Coast Guard.
GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT: I was privileged to serve the U.S. Navy for 31 years and the naval militia for 46 years, Ingram said. I am also proud to dispense justice as an acting Supreme Court judge in the Bronx and now in Kings County.
Ingram said his father, who was a city police officer for 19 years and retired with line of duty disability, is his greatest inspiration.
PERSONAL LIFE: Ingram has four children and five grandchildren. A Manhattan native, Ingram now resides in Bay Ridge with his wife of 46 years, Maureen.
