IRS to offer taxpayer assistance on February 23

This Saturday, February 23, from 9 am. to 2 p.m., the IRS will be holding a Special Assistance Open House for New York and New Jersey residents who were affected by Hurricane Sandy.

They will also be offering extended hours on Tuesdays through Thursdays throughout the month of February: from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Brooklyn locations of their Taxpayer Assistance Center are at:

  • 2 MetroTech Center
  • 100 Myrtle Avenue

Other New York locations are in Queens (59-17 Junction Boulevard, Rego Park), Downtown Manhattan (290 Broadway), Midtown Manhattan (110 West 44th Street), and Long Island (999 Stewart Avenue.

The New Jersey location is at 20 Washington Place in Newark.

Services offered will include assistance with:

  • tax return preparation
  • tax law questions
  • return transcripts
  • IRS notices
  • tax debt
  • tax liens
  • tax-related questions for Sandy payments and losses

Tax return preparation will be limited to Forms1040EZ, 1040A, 1040 and Schedules A, B, C-EZ, EIC, L, M, R, SE and residents with an income of $51,000 or less. The income limit is waived if casualty loss criteria is met.
