A sweet success at Leske’s Bakery

The legendary Leske’s Bakery has been serving up Scandinavian sweets to Ridgeites for decades.

Lifelong friends Kenny Grande and Steven DiSimone took over the bakery and re-opened it with much fanfare on August 8, 2012.

“We offer all of the same great baked goods that Leske’s has always offered,” explained Harry Hawk, marketing director and culinary consultant for the bakery, adding that not all of the favorites have returned to the shelves, just yet.

“We do have some new stuff, like peanut butter and jelly donuts and the Hostess-inspired cupcakes,” Hawk said. “Leske’s is also making new styles of bread. We are still working to bring back the most loved breads, including cinnamon raisin. We also have limpa bread and all the things people have loved for decades.”

Leske’s Kringle Klub memberships offerfrequent shoppers discounts, with extra savings for senior citizens age 65 and older.

Since there were many customers coming from Park Slope, when the opportunity to buy a historic bakery in Park Slope came up, “we had to do it,” Hawk said.

“This gave us another retail outlet close to customers in Park Slope, potential new customers and new baking capacity,” Hawk explained. “The owners desire to continue to preserve the unique differences that Leske’s has over other bakeries, such as Scandinavian treats, black and white cookies and the Leske’s cookie.”

Hawk said to look out for other Leske’s locations throughout Brooklyn and Manhattan over the next few years. But, the bakery’s home base will always be Bay Ridge.

“Most important is our original returning customers in Bay Ridge,” Hawk said. “We will always be here to be of service, and bring good cookies and cakes to their families and friends.”
