Hop over to Leske’s this Easter for some special treats

The legendary Leske’s Bakery knows a thing or two about celebrating the holidays and Easter is no exception.

Besides the usual favorites like kringle and limpa bread, Leske’s will be carrying Hinsch’s chocolate bunnies in all varieties and sizes, including milk and dark chocolate and lollipops, plus nonpareils.  They will also bake up Easter-colored black and white cookies, and a very special Twinkie.

The Easter-themed Twinkie will be filled with Chambord buttercream and sprinkled with pink granulated sugar. The raspberry delights will only be available this coming Saturday and Sunday, March 30 and 31.

Ken Grande, Harry Hawk, and Steven DeSimone will bring a holiday spin to Leske's baked goods.

“Since they are the same bakers [as the original Leske’s], they know what to do. They are on auto pilot,” explained Steven DiSimone, co-owner of the bakery, adding that St. Patrick’s Day was a big success for them.

“Every holiday we take on is a challenge, but we enjoy it,” added co-owner Kenny Grande.

Also available for Easter are elaborate layer cakes, decorated like Easter eggs. Inside are layers of chocolate and yellow sponge cake and buttercream. Plus, there are baskets made of chocolate and filled with cookies.

But DeSimone and Grande stressed that freshly baked bread is available every day after 5 p.m.

“People can always come in for fresh baked bread,” Grande said. “We have really been trying to let the neighborhood know.”

Starting on Thursday, March 28, Leske’s will once again serve cinnamon swirl bread.

“It’s one of the historic things that Leske’s used to make. It’s popular, people have been talking on Facebook about it,” explained Grande. “We have been too busy actually to make it until now.”

Leske’s Bakery is located at 558 Fifth Avenue, between 15th and 16th Streets. They can be contacted at 718-369-0404. Leske’s is open seven days a week from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m.. www.leskesbakery.com
