REMINDER: March to support LICH on Sunday, April 7

Residents of Red Hook, Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill and beyond are encouraged to join in the March To Save LICH on Sunday, April 7, which will start at Coffey Park — Dwight and Verona Street — at 1 p.m. and then make its way to Long Island College Hospital at 339 Hicks Street (at Amity Street).

The 155-year-old hospital is slated for closure after administrators at the State University of New York (SUNY) — which oversees SUNY Downstate Medical Center, which purchased LICH in 2011 — voted in early February to get the property out of its financial portfolio in an attempt to stabilize its finances.

However, lack of open communication with the public and acceptance of public input on the matter has led to state Supreme Court judges repeatedly either overturning their votes or putting temporary restraining orders on the hospital closure.
