35th Annual Seaside Summer Concert series lineup released

Drumroll, please!

The lineup for the 35th Annual Seaside Summer Concert Series, hosted by Borough President Marty Markowitz has been released.

Classic rockers Cheap Trick will kick off the Seaside Concert Series at a special Friday night concert to be held on July 12 at 7:30 p.m.  Smokey Robinson will perform on July 25, The Go Go’s and Tom Tom Club on August 1, Huey Lewis and the News will make a stop as part of their “Sports: 30th Anniversary Tour” on August 15 and Chicago will perform at the final concert on a special night on Wednesday, August 21. The artist for the July 18 show is yet to be determined.

This year, the Seaside concerts will take place at Surf Avenue and West 21st Street, next to MCU Park. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chair, as there are a limited number of rental chairs available for $5 each on a first come, first serve basis.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Concert Series lineup was also announced. Those concerts are held on Monday nights at 7:30 p.m. at Wingate Field, located on Brooklyn Avenue between Rutland Road and Winthrop Street.

Babyface kicks off that series on July 15. July 22 will be an “old-school” night with Rakim, Whodini, Big Daddy Kane and Chubb Rock performing. July 29 will be the Annual Gospel Night with Marvin Sapp, Israel Haughton and the New Breed and the Christian Cultural Center Choir on stage. Toni Braxton will appear on August 12, and Gladys Knight and the O’Jays will close out the series on August 19.

Attendees are also encouraged to bring their own chair and to arrive early since seating is limited. Cameras, audio or video recording, alcohol, pets, bottles and smoking are not allowed at any concert. All persons and packages will be subject to search upon entry to either concert series.
