Avidya & the Kleshas are performing tonight at the Tea Lounge!
The band’s debut album, Tree of Series was released June 4th, and has already proved to be a success. The albus combines jazz with vocals comparable to Florence + The Machine, Fiona Apple, and Portishead. Critics are already abuzz.
MTV Hive said the band was “very direct about their intentions, and Impose Magazine said “Amid the piano tidals, Xander Naylor plays off the stick clicking percussion that navigates you through the song’s various room suites and sound streams.”
“Avidya manages to attack life’s dissatisfactions with a torrent of folk-jazz truth, all in pursuit of her unique spiritual journey,” said The Deli Magazine.
Founded by Stephanie Carlin, the band got their start from a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2011. Carlin tracked down her bandmembers, Wes Reid (percussion), Russ Flynn (bass), Xander Naylor (electric guitar) and Javi Santiago (piano/keys) through Craigslist.
Carlin has been acclaimed by Pen’s Eye View as an artist “that completely understands the role of music in our lives.”
So come relax at the Tea Lounge (837 Union Street) with some ice cold drinks and great music, tonight from 9-10 p.m.
