Student-run East Williamsburg Youthmarket will kick off the season this Thursday

This Thursday, July 11, marks the start of Sprout’s East Williamsburg Youthmarket! The annual youth-led farmer’s market will be located at the corner of Grand Street and Graham Avenue from 2 to 6 p.m. every Thursday through November 21.

The student interns of Sprout NYC run the market, which features produce grown not only by the students, but also at various farms in New York, New Jersey and Vermont.

The market will also feature cooking demonstrations and lessons for the students in economics and how to run a market, such as managing the purchasing budget.

Helping hands and community support is also welcome at the Sprout Farm over at the Gaynor Campus Garden at 190 Manhattan Avenue every Sunday from 5-7 p.m.. Pull a few weeds, turn the compost, and then go home with some fresh food.

Email info@sproutfarms.org with any questions. Donations to help support the Youthmarket can be made on IOBY.

Sprout Farms formed in January 2011 in Brooklyn, New York.  The brainchild of Katie Hope and Heather McKinstry, Sprout Farms looked for a location for a school garden.  In the Summer of 2011, through a wonderful teacher and administrator named Coquille Houshour, Sprout Farms began work on a garden and curriculum at the Green School and Lyons Community School.  These two schools share space in the old I.S. 49 building in north Brooklyn.
