Unsung Bay Ridge: Seniors in his sight

I am pleased to highlight the tremendous difference one young man has made in and beyond Bay Ridge. Warren Chan is a Fort Hamilton High School graduate who serves as secretary of the 68th Street Community Council, and as a member of Community Board 11.

He enjoys working with the precinct on projects that benefit the entire community. In his 20s, Warren recognized the needs of this area’s growing Chinese population, and formed a non-profit organization, Asian Community United Society, to help its seniors.

However, his organization has extended services to over 20,000 seniors of every ethnic background. Warren also hosts free family festivals that include food and prizes. What a remarkable young man who is using his energy and passion to make a difference to the lives of so many!

Mark your calendar to attend our National Night Out Against Crime on Tuesday, August 6, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. The 68th Precinct Community Council hosts this great event that brings the community and its police officers together in an atmosphere of fun. We are able to thank them for their protective services to us throughout the year.

There will be free rides, food, drinks, prizes and music. Don’t miss this family night that is held annually at 79th Street and Shore Road.

Congratulations to Monsignor Jamie GigantielloPope Francis will also attend this event. What an honor for Monsignor Jamie who is our Bay Ridge St. Patrick’s Parade chaplain.

UNSUNG FOLK REMEDIES: Remove warts naturally

Warts are found on almost every part of the body, and most are just visually annoying.

If you would like to get rid of yours, people who have applied Manuka Honey daily, covered with a piece of tape, report getting rid of the wart. Change the cotton bud daily.

Similar applications of apple cider vinegar is a popular remedy also. This may burn, so be careful when applying. Banana peel over the wart covered with tape and changed daily is also highly recommended by those who have used this method. Change is usually reported within a week.

Please consult your doctor if you are on any medication.
