Brooklyn Heights Hicks Street Engine 224 emerges winner of Firefighter Food Face-Off

The battle over which team of firefighters could tame the flames of the grill the best resulted in one team taking home the trophy: Brooklyn Heights Hicks Street, Engine 224.

The guys from Engine 224 won the trophy, plus a $500 gift card to Fairway Market, bragging rights, and a donation of one night of Fairway sales to the charity of its choice. However, all four teams — plus the enthusiastic crowd of taste testers — were also the winners of the Third Annual Fairway Firefighters Food Face-Off, held July 31 at Fairway’s Red Hook store.

The competition saw four local Brooklyn fire companies face-off over who could use preserved lemons — the secret ingredient — in the most delicious and original way.

Participating fire companies were the Red Hook Happy Hookers (Engine 279, Ladder 131), Red Hook Raiders (Engine 202, Ladder 101), Brooklyn Heights Fire Under the Bridge (Engine 205, Ladder 118), and the winning Engine 224.

Judges included Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz.
