Gun arrest at 9th Avenue D train station

Two police officers have recovered a gun after approaching an individual because he was observed smoking in a train station, arresting his companion and charging the latter with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree and six counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance.

According to the NYPD, on August 27, at about 3:51 a.m., Police Officers Dave Williams and Stanislav Kushnir arrested the suspect, Dove Altman, a 21-year-old white male, inside the Ninth Avenue D line station on the border of Boro Park and Sunset Park. At the time, Altman was in the company of another man who was smoking a cigarette, which is against MTA rules, according to police.

Cops say that, as the officers approached the two people and asked the person smoking for identification, they noticed that the other person, Altman, was visibly injured. They asked how he had gotten hurt, requesting him to rise so they could see if he had any other injuries.

It was as Altman stood, according to the NYPD, that cops discerned what looked like a firearm beneath his sweatshirt. DCPI said that that turned out to be a .45 caliber Tanfoglio semi-automatic handgun.

According to cops, also discovered during an additional search were a magazine with five live rounds loaded into it as well as another loose bullet and alleged narcotics.

The officers were on routine patrol at the time of the arrest.
