Fire ravages Bay Ridge home; two firefighters injured

A massive, fast-spreading fire at a duplex at 71 and 73 Dahlgren Place in Bay Ridge left at least two firefighters with minor injuries and several residents temporarily homeless.

Around 150 firefighters and 33 units raced to the scene of the three-alarm fire at 1:30 a.m. on early Monday morning, September 9 and managed to contain the blaze to the duplex where it first started. Residents were immediately evacuated by neighbors and emergency responders.

The fire started on the second floor, but an investigation is ongoing as to what caused it.

Residents of at least one of the displaced households are now working with the Red Cross to find temporary housing and receive emotional support.
