Common Sense: The Cold War Heats Up!

Maybe many New Yorkers are not bothered by the reports of Bill de Blasio honeymooning in Cuba or assisting the Sandinistas in Nicaragua. Possibly some New Yorkers agree with Marxist sympathizer Harry Belefonte who endorsed de Blasio saying he would make a great mayor. Then again, I think there are a lot of New Yorkers like myself who are appalled.

Bill de Blasio deserves to be defeated based on his extreme positions on issues that could bankrupt the city and drain the pockets of all New Yorkers through higher taxes and fees. His past would seem to reaffirm his left leaning philosophy and raise real concerns about positions on all sorts of issues that have yet to be aired.

De Blasio for his part must be concerned about the light that the media and Lhota campaign are attempting to shine on his views and activities. He is doing his best to duck debates and answers to a growing number of questions.

Next to the presidency, the mayor of the city of New York is the elected position that most effects the lives of the average New York City resident. Bill de Blasio’s past and his positions that could affect our future should be reviewed closely by all New Yorkers prior to casting their vote on November 5.

One prominent individual who is clearly disturbed by Bill de Blasio’s past (and present for that matter) is Conservative-Republican Assembly member Nicole Malliotakis. In response to a remark in which de Blasio offered “some praise for healthcare in Cuba” Nicole tweeted, “He needs a reality check. I’m happy to talk to him about how poor care for Cubans is. The good care is given to tourists and non-Cubans. My family in Cuba needs me to send them aspirin and over counter meds because it is hard for them to access. De Blasio is delusional!”

The State Conservative Party who only a few months ago had former governor and likely presidential candidate Jeb Bush address its annual dinner, has Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindel as its guest speaker at a cocktail party on October 8 in Manhattan.

Jindel has been considered a key spokesman for the Republican Party and a likely player in future national politics. Anyone wishing to purchase a ticket should contact the Conservative Party at 781-921-2158.

The fact that the Conservative Party is able to regularly attract major national conservative leaders at its events is in great part due to the respect the national conservative movement has for longtime Conservative Party Chairman Mike Long of Bay Ridge.

Mike, who is on the Board of the American Conservative Union, has been a guiding force nationally since the Reagan administration when he served as New York’s secretary of the electoral college. President’s and vice presidents alike have taken the time to meet with Mike in New York and Washington.

I always thought it was fascinating that when Mike owned a wine and liquor shop in Bay Ridge you could find him each day in the front working the cash register. But if you went to the back he could be on the phone with Governor Pataki, the White House or majority leader of the U.S. Senate. So if you were buying a bottle and you asked him what was new on the political scene there was a chance you were getting an answer that CNN would have been interested in hearing.
