Downtown Brooklyn’s hospitality boom is showing no signs of slowing down. Business and real estate in and around the Fulton Mall and Brooklyn Borough Hall—including the Fulton, Court, and Adams Street commercial districts—are as popular as ever, and the need to address current and future demand continues for a place where visitors can relax and rest their heads at night.
That is why the minds behind the newest Holiday Inn are thrilled that construction on their downtown location at 300 Schermerhorn Street will be complete and the doors open to the public in December 2014.
“It’s great to see a private and public center come together in Brooklyn,” said Kirk Kinsell, Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) president for the Americas at the official groundbreaking ceremony on October 18. “It will be one of 1,200 Holiday Inns in the world.”
The new downtown location will be owned by long-time IHG franchisees K. K. Mehta and his son Sanjeev Mehta, who also opened the first Staybridge Suites hotel for New York City in Times Square six years ago.
“It is a beautiful location and [we wanted Holiday Inn] because it is a trusted, family name [that represents] feeling safe and clean,” said the senior Mehta, managing partner of 300 Schermerhorn Realty, LLC. “We are proud to be part of Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG). Their relationship between franchisers is unmatched and far exceeds that of any other hotel group. Everybody is friendly and committed to driving profitable revenue and improve the guest experience.”
The new Holiday Inn will be 15 floors high and feature 246 rooms, a restaurant, a ballroom, three meeting rooms, a sauna, steam room, indoor pool, and a Jacuzzi, all spread throughout 90,000-square-feet. The international hotel chain will continue its familiar design of a “warm, trend forward, and comfortable” atmosphere. Guest room amenities will include ergonomic workstations, data ports, and pillows that come in two comfort levels: “soft” and “firm.”
