Over $4 million in grant money has been awarded to community-based behavioral and mental health programs in New York Stateincluding $441,592 for Brooklyns branch of FEGS (the Federation Employment and Guidance Service) to diagnose and treat behavioral health disorders in southwest Brooklyn seniors/older adults at two of Maimonides Medical Centers outpatient facilities.
Across the United States, individuals with serious mental illness are dying 25 years earlier than the general public, saidActing OMH Commissioner Dr. Ann Marie Sullivan. Through early intervention, we will improve the health and functioning of older adults with mental illness, thus increasing the quality of life and improving overall health outcomes.
