Police Beat: 68th and 62nd Precincts

68th Precinct

Between Friday, June 13 and Thursday, June 19, the 68th Precinct received reports of one burglary and four grand larcenies. The 68th Precinct serves Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Fort Hamilton.

LOTTERY LOOTER

On Friday, June 13, a man living near 11th Avenue and 66th Street received a phone call from an unknown person allegedly claiming that he had won the lottery. The voice on the other end allegedly instructed the resident to send money to China in order to wire transfer his winnings.

The victim wired $4,365 to the unknown person and was scammed.

DRIVEWAY DASHER

A resident parked his vehicle in a driveway near 13th Avenue and 73rd Street on Sunday, June 15 around 11 p.m. At 8 a.m. the next morning, the resident noticed that an unknown person had allegedly entered the vehicle and removed his wallet containing $15 and assorted credit cards.

SCREEN-DOOR SNEAK

On Monday, June 16 around 3:52 p.m. a woman living near Ridge Boulevard and 76th Street noticed an unknown male allegedly attempting to open a screen in her kitchen window and gain access to her house. The victim was inside the home at the time and, according to cops, when the male entered the house, the resident screamed and scared the perp away.

DUNKIN DEBAUCHERY

A woman was sitting at a table inside a Dunkin Donuts near 64th Street and Seventh Avenue on Thursday, June 19 around 10:45 a.m. when a man allegedly approached her and snatched her purse off the table. When the woman approached the male, he allegedly displayed a knife, causing the victim to back up and give the perp room to flee the scene.

62nd Precinct

Between Tuesday, June 17 and Monday, June 23, the 62nd Precinct received reports of four burglaries, 10 grand larcenies, one robbery and five felony assaults. The 62nd Precinct serves Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Gravesend.

MASSAGE MAYHEM

Police arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly assaulting and robbing his 35-year-old masseuse after a June 16 appointment at an 85th Street store. The man reportedly grabbed her purse from her hands and then took ahold of her neck until she couldn’t breathe, making off with cash and an iPhone, which was later recovered in a freezer at his house.

GOING FOR THE JUG-ULAR

A 26-year-old man and his 59-year-old father were arrested after reportedly assaulting their sister/daughter’s boyfriend during the couple’s dispute inside their apartment building on 84th Street near 23rd Avenue at around 10:10 p.m. on Friday, June 20, said police, who also arrested the boyfriend for inflicting injuries on the brother and father during the assault. The brother allegedly hit the 30-year-old man repeatedly with a five-gallon water jug before the father choked him.

REAR WINDOW

Police are searching for the man who was allegedly spotted fleeing a home via its rear window on West Seventh Street near Avenue S at around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18. The victim spotted the suspect fleeing towards West Sixth Street via backyard fences. He is said to have made off with $10,000 in cash plus jewelry.

A Bay Ridge Parkway apartment between 19th and 20th Avenues was broken into via an open rear bedroom window after 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 23, police said. The 48-year-old resident returned from lunch to find her front door lock glued, the bedrooms ransacked and $800 in cash plus credit cards and jewelry missing.

On Friday, June 20, someone entered a home at 65th Street near 21st Avenue via a rear bedroom window and ransacked the bedroom closets and cabinets, making off with $20 in cash plus jewelry, said police.

DOUBLE HIT

Police are searching for someone who allegedly broke into two cars parked in front of 1736 Shore Parkway at around 8 p.m. on Monday, June 23, stealing $360, credit cards and jewelry from one, and credit cards and a driver’s license from the other. Broken glass was left behind from one car’s rear driver side window and the other car’s driver window.
