Culture Wave to kick off annual Summer Stroll

As the annual Summer Stroll kicks off, BRACA (Bay Ridge Arts and Culture Alliance) is organizing a Culture Wave to showcase Bay Ridge. The events will occur at four locations along Third Avenue on Friday, July 18, covering a wide range of activities such as dance, food, entertainment and environmental awareness.“Bay Ridge is a very diverse community, and events like this will hopefully show the general public just how much the community has to offer,” said Victoria Hofmo, explaining that kids from the Bay Ridge Creative Center who are performing in “Peter Pan” will lead the procession down Third Avenue to each of the four sites with events going on every 15-20 minutes. The first event at 7 p.m. will be at Cosentino’s, 6927 Third Avenue. According to Hofmo, the event will serve to educate the public about the new EcoDock in Bay Ridge, where programming is being coordinated by the Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance and the city’s Parks Department, including free boat tours from the 69th Street Pier around New York harbor. Then, there will be a performance by the Clann Eireann Pipers at Yellow Hook, 7003 Third Avenue at about 7:20 p.m., followed by falafel and an Egyptian dance lesson at King Falafel, 7408 Third Avenue, at approximately 7:40 p.m. Finally, the night will wrap up with Rangoli art, Garbaa folk dance and Dholak rhythms, traditional Indian folk dance and music with Paulum and Aeliushi Mistry at Indian Passage, 7407 Third Avenue at about 8 p.m.“We’ve been doing the Summer Strolls for three years, and really want to keep improving it,” emphasized Hofmo.
