Marking a change of command at Fort Hamilton

Every two years a new commander takes the helm at the Fort Hamilton Army Base. On the morning of July 23, Colonel Eluyn Ginés – who had just finished his tour at the base — relinquished command of United States Army Garrison Fort Hamilton and welcomed new commander Colonel Joseph Davidson.Ginés’ military career extends back to 1989 when he began as a second lieutenant in the Chemical Branch from the University of Puerto Rico ROTC program. Before the ceremony, he was honored with the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service.Although Ginés is relinquishing command of Fort Hamilton, his military career is not yet finished. He is assuming the position of executive officer for the Adjutant General Corps at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.During the ceremony, Ginés mentioned that all he owes all his success to his staff for their hard work and dedication.Davidson, who hails from Congers, New York, is a cavalry officer who has served in a variety of command and staff positions in combat brigades throughout the U.S. and overseas including multiple combat deployments to Iraq.In addition to the change in base commander, Command Sergeant Major Hector Prince – the fort’s highest ranking enlisted person – also handed over his responsibilities to the base’s new Command Sergeant Major, Kevin Fauntleroy. Prince has been in active service since entering the Army in 1983.Fauntleroy was born and raised in Brooklyn and entered the U.S. Army in 1985.
