Police Beat: Blotters for the 62nd, 68th and 72nd Precincts

68th Precinct

Between Saturday, July 12 and Saturday, July 19 the 68th Precinct received reports of one grand larceny and three burglaries. The 68th Precinct serves Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Fort Hamilton.

SHOPPING CART SWIPE

An unsuspecting shopper was browsing the aisles of a supermarket near 63rd Street and Eighth Avenue on Saturday, July 19 when she placed her purse on top of the cart. Around 5:30 p.m., she stepped away from the cart momentarily and, upon return, noticed that an unknown perp had allegedly swiped the purse, containing an iPhone 5S, $50 and a Bank of America debit card.

WET BANDITS

On Tuesday, July 15 between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. a resident living near Fort Hamilton Parkway and 84th Street was visited at her home by two unknown Arabic men who, she told cops, claimed to work for the water company. The perps allegedly told the resident that they were there to check the water.

The woman let the males into the basement to “check the water” and, while in the basement, one perp received a phone call and both males left. When the resident returned upstairs to her home, she noticed that $2,300 was missing from her bedroom and all dresser drawers had been searched through.

MISSING PIPES

Between the hours of 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 12 and 12 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15, an unknown person allegedly entered a residence near 66th Street and 13th Avenue through the basement window, removing property that included 60 feet of one inch brass pipe, valued at approximately $1,000.

CHOKEHOLD CROOK

A man was walking on Sunday, July 19 around 4:45 p.m. near Fort Hamilton Parkway and 65th Street when he was allegedly approached by two unknown men. The first male, according to cops, placed the victim in a chokehold from behind while stating, “Give me your wallet,” while the second perp ripped the victims back pocket, removing the wallet.

Both perps then fled in a black Sedan.

62nd Precinct

Between Tuesday, July 5 and Monday, July 21, the 62nd Precinct received reports of two robberies, one burglary, nine grand larcenies and two felony assaults. The 62nd Precinct serves Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Gravesend.

BURNED MILK

The boyfriend of a 37-year-old woman is being sought by cops after allegedly punching her in the forehead and shoulder and then choking her into unconsciousness after she burned some milk shortly after midnight on Sunday, July 20 inside their 18th Avenue apartment.

THIEF THREATS

Two men in their 20s allegedly punched and robbed a 66-year-old man as he walked on Bay 29th Street towards Benson Avenue at around 1:50 a.m. on Monday, July 21, said police, who were told by the man that one suspect punched him in the face and demanded his money while the second man grabbed his bag and repeated the demand, before fleeing when the man screamed for help.

A 75-year-old woman told police that she was followed off the B82 bus at West Fourth Street and Kings Highway at around 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 19 and then robbed of two gold necklaces inside the lobby of her Quentin Road apartment building by someone who told her, in Russian, “If you want to live, give me your chains.”

BROKEN LOCKERS

Two members of a gym on 86th Street near 19th Avenue were reportedly robbed of their credit and debit cards, cash and electronics—which had been locked in gym lockers while they exercised, said police. One incident occurred at around 6:40 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16 and the other at around 2 p.m. on Monday, July 21. In both instances, the locks were either broken or tampered with.

BAD NEIGHBOR

Police arrested a 53-year-old man for allegedly breaking into his 47-year-old female downstairs neighbor’s apartment and stealing $1,550 in cash, plus jewelry and a countertop stove on Thursday, July 17. The suspect reportedly also shut off her water.

72nd Precinct

Between Tuesday, July 15 and Monday, July 21, the 72nd Precinct received reports of four grand larcenies, three robberies and one felony assault.

PULLED CHAIN

Police are searching for a five-foot-seven-inch tall Hispanic man who allegedly snatched a white gold necklace with a gold pendant from the neck of a 35-year-old Asian woman as she walked on 62nd Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues at around 1 a.m. on Wednesday, July 16.

A 32-year-old man was robbed of a silver chain around his neck as he walked on 62nd Street between Fourth and Fifth Avenues at around midnight on Friday, July 18, said police, who described the suspect as a Hispanic man in his mid-20s, weighing around 115 pounds, standing five-feet-five-inches tall, with brown eyes, black hair and a clear complexion.

MILK MOOCH

A 34-year-old Asian man was arrested for trying to shoplift $93 worth of baby formula from a store at Fourth Avenue and 62nd Street at around 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, said police, who also reported that the suspect resisted a security guard’s attempts to detain him, resulting in injuries to the guard’s hand and fingers.

PHONE PILFERS

A 52-year-old Asian man was pushed to the ground and his Samsung Galaxy S3 stolen while he was walking on 62nd Street between Fourth and Fifth Avenues at around 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 16, said police.

A 52-year-old man was also robbed of his Samsung Galaxy cell phone, as well as his wallet and $30 in cash, as he walked near 60th Street and Third Avenue at around 10:15 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, said police, who arrested an 18-year-old shortly after the incident.
