Several Brooklyn advocacy and nonprofit groups are part of a coalition taking part in BYOBag Week from September 15 through 21, challenging New Yorkers to stop using single-use plastic and paper bags in favor of recycling via canvas or existing recyclable bags.
BK Greens, the Brooklyn Food Coalition, Sustainable Flatbush, Environmental Committee of the Park Slope Food Coop, and SIMS Municipal Recycling are among those supporting the challenge, which also supports a 2013 City Council bill that would enact a 10-cent fee on all carry-out bags.
