Beating Cancer in Heels: But what if I don’t get to live a long life?

Preparing for the future can be a bittersweet process for someone diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. You can’t help but think, what if I plan and then my illness comes back?

This thought can take you to a very scary and negative place. You might start to develop feelings about this thought and then take negative actions or no actions at all. Having this thought is hard to sit with. I understand that, but guess what? No one’s life is guaranteed!

I would hate to miss out on life worrying about dying of my illness and then die in a car accident. I would be really angry on my trip up to heaven or wherever we go after we leave earth.

This thought often arises for me when I think about getting married and having children. I think to myself, what if I am not around to watch them have their own children? What if my husband never recovers or my child for that matter?

Looking back, I am sure I have pushed guys or the feeling of wanting to create a family away because my fear would get the best of me.

Not anymore! I now realize that I have a certain awareness of a reality that most don’t want to accept. If and when I do decide to create my own family, I will try my best to prepare for the worst and give all the love and strength that I have discovered in myself to them. That is going to make one hell of a strong family dynamic.

You, my Coachee, have something uniquely special to offer this world. Whatever it is, you deserve to create it and experience it. No one knows when his or her time is up but what you do know is that every single moment is a chance really to live.

You have been awakened in a world where most people are sleeping. Now get up get out and LIVE! You are here for a reason! OWN IT!

Now, Coachee, let’s get you planning more and worrying less!

Ask yourself,

What are my biggest fears when it comes to planning?

•How can I prepare for those fears?

•What will keep me motivated to peruse this plan?

Life Coach TIP: For every plan list three reasons why you deserve to pursue it.

Empowerment: If it doesn’t challenge you it doesn’t change you.
