Bensonhurst woman struck and killed on 86th Street

Bensonhurst resident Cristina Alonso, 38, was struck and killed by a red 2002 Ford Explorer on Monday, October 6 at the intersection of 86th Street and 14th Avenue.

At approximately 7:19 p.m., police responded to a call of a pedestrian struck at the corner and, upon arrival, determined that the vehicle, being driven by a 33-year-old man, had been travelling southbound on 14th Avenue crossing 86th Street when it collided with Alonso, who was attempting to cross from east to west across 14th Avenue outside of the crosswalk.

EMS transported Alonso to Lutheran Medical Center where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The incident is being investigated by the NYPD’s Highway unit.
