Xaverian welcomes five new members to Board of Trustees

With the end of another year in sight, the team at Xaverian High School, 7100 Shore Road, has proudly welcomed five new, influential members to Xaverian’s Board of Trustees.

“The addition of such prominent new board members is yet another successful step in ensuring the promise of Xaverian’s future,” said President Robert Alesi, who, together with Brother Lawrence Harvey, chairperson of the Board of Trustees, welcomed Chris Mullin (’81), Ed Gilligan (’77), Michael Strianese (’74), Dr. Steven Galetta (’75) and Cara Macksoud, a graduating member of Xaverian’s Genesis middle school program’s class of 1992, to the board.

Mullin, a five-time NBA All-Star, two-time Olympic Gold Medalist, and NBA Hall of Fame inductee, currently serves as the advisor to the owner and chairperson of the Sacramento Kings while Gilligan serves as the president of American Express. Strianese is chairperson, president and chief executive officer of L-3, and Galetta is chair of neurology at NYU Langone Medical Center. Macksoud, a mother of five, is a prominent trader and risk manager who has used her career in finance to make connections with several charities close to her heart.

“The range of experience that each board member brings to the table is truly remarkable,” said Alesi, noting that perhaps even more impressive than their professional pedigrees are all five new board members’ proven track record of making a difference. “I can’t think of a better group of professionals to work with in continuing the implementation of Xaverian’s Strategic Plan, which calls for, in part, a dedicated wing for the middle school, a new school chapel, cutting-edge science labs, a new school entrance, and further enhancements to our state-of-the-art auditorium.”

“The support and education that I received while at Xaverian served as a solid foundation for all of my future success,” said Mullin, who played basketball for Xaverian as well as Saint John’s University. “I think it is so important to give back and to take care of the students that will be tomorrow’s leaders.”

Gilligan agreed.

“As the challenges in the world increase, so do the opportunities for making a difference. I want to do what I can to make sure young people have the same opportunities I had to succeed,” he said. “Xaverian was a big part of preparing me for the future, and this is a small way that I can pay it forward.”
