Members of the community gathered Thursday, November 13 for the opening of Immediate Care Medical Walk-In of Bensonhurst.
The walk-in office has an ideal location; Bensonhurst, said patients present for the grand opening, has been bereft of medical centers that provide timely access.
What the facility provides, according to Immediate Care CEO (and Bensonhurst native) Salvatore Cannizzaro, is a fast and convenient alternative to the traditional methods of health care.
“When I asked around where the community went (for health care services), there were a few family practices here and there but it was by appointment only, and it could take up to three weeks to get an appointment, which is not good for the health care system cost-wise, not good for the patient, and not convenient,” Cannizarro said. “Immediate Care creates a convenience for our community. Patients can walk in without an appointment and see a board-certified medical doctor. We do all types of procedures here. We take x-rays, draw blood, do DOT testing and more.”
The addition of an urgent care facility in Bensonhurst also is likely to reduce visits to local emergency rooms, said Cannizarro.
“Eighty percent of the cases that go to the ER don’t need to be there,” Cannizarro explained. “We can facilitate those cases here more efficiently at a lesser cost to the patient and to the insurance company.
“This facility is our premier center,” he went on. “It’s 4,000 square feet. We have three locations — this is our first one in Brooklyn — and we plan to have several more in New York.”
