Thousands attend the 19th Annual Halloween Walk at Owl’s Head Park

It was a (haunted) walk in the park.

On Friday, October 31, Owl’s Head Park was transformed into a place of spooks and thrills for local children and their families to celebrate Halloween as State Senator Marty Golden hosted the 19th Annual Haunted Walk and Fairytale Forest. The event took place after school so kids could enjoy the festivities early and often, and didn’t conclude until 9 p.m.

The celebration of the holiday included a pumpkin patch, rides, costumed characters, kid’s activities, arts and crafts, and a costume contest for the kids. One of the kids’ favorite events happened to be the Trackless Train Ride and Dracula’s Food Court.

“The Haunted Walk and Fairytale Forest has been an amazing way to celebrate the Halloween holiday,” said Golden, calling the event, “A special day full of fun, ghosts, goblins, tricks and treats for the children and families of our neighborhood.”

The celebration, which took place on 67th Street and Colonial Road, wasn’t just for older children. A costume contest was held for children six and under, with winners announced later in the evening. Two walking tours were held, with a scarier iteration held during the nighttime.

Other event sponsors included the Southwest Brooklyn Parks Task Force, the Shore Road Parks Conservancy, the neighborhood Community Emergency Response Team (CERT1NYC) and the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation.

Golden was pleased by both the excitement the event generated. “The Halloween Walk again proved to be a safe alternative for trick or treating for thousands of children,” he said. “I thank all the families who participated in the event and the many volunteers who worked tirelessly to make the event the best it could be. There was fun for everyone and I am sure many agreed that they cannot wait until the next one.”
